The #boycottchina sensationalism sounds really good but the economic boycott everyone's talking about could really turn out to be just a myth. Think about it. We buy Chinese products because we do not have a better and cheaper alternative. Chinese electronics which were once infamous for their short life have now turned out to be reliable products with an affordable price tag. India lags miles behind China in terms of research and development.
Look at what happened to our smartphone brands. Are we willing to buy a sub-standard Indian product only to make a statement?
Also, rich people can choose what they buy and wouldn't mind paying a few hundred or even thousand rupees extra for a non-Chinese product only to #boycottchina Poor Indians do not have that privilege.
What we need right now is an industrial and technological revolution. A real 'Make in India' with better, reliable and affordable products of our own that speak for themselves in the market. And we must do this not to compete with China but for our own good. It will provide employment, opening up jobs and to a certain degree, stop the brain drain which has been happening for years. Speaking of employment, are we going to stop working for Chinese companies stationed in India?
Before #boycottchina we need a real 'Aatma-Nirbhar Bharat.'
